I love this opening shot. Sadly, it is not mine.
August 28th, 2009.
The evening began on the top floor of the Signature Room in the John Hancock building where they had a few drink followed by dinner at Rosebud. Afterwards, Dan took Liz to the lakefront where they walked out on to a pier where he proposed. The photograph was made by Liz's sister who teamed with the sneaky Dan to document his proposal to Liz on August 28th.

When she showed me this image, I think I yelped. Then choked. I love the colors of the city, the distance and privacy of the image, the slight shake to the camera adding to the voyeuristic qualities along with the two, solid silhouettes against downtown Chicago.
Liz's sister wasn't as thrilled as I about this image. I saw this picture as perfect all the way down to the exact moment of the two standing there, and Dan handing over the ring. That moment is far better than any hug or celebratory moment under these circumstances. I am so fond of this image that we used it in their guestbook engagement album.
This shot makes me jealous.
We shot their session in November, and they walked the aisle in May. How could she say no? Especially to a young man with such an endearing smile (take a look at the 5th picture below). While I have been too busy to strike up a solid friendship with them, I was so honored they attended the studio open house a few weeks ago. Supposedly they were only coming for 30 minutes before proceeding onward to another event 3 plus hours later, they were still here gabbing, drinking wine, and meeting tons of new people.
It really felt incredible they decided to stay and they had such a grand time. Sorry I made you (slightly) late to your other gathering.
Chat soon!

My fave is by far the one sitting on the bridge with the city in the background. Very nice work. I wish I knew how to bring some things out of focus in the frame like that.
